At The Rustic House, we are so grateful to have a team that helps our company grow efficiently. So over the next few weeks, we are going to spotlight each of our staff members! Each of them has a unique story that led them to The Rustic House. Up first is our Marketing + Media Specialist and Sales Assistant, Lyndi Locke....
How did you discover The Rustic House? My journey with TRH started in October 2017. Emily (co-founder of TRH) was delivering candles to a local boutique, and struck up a conversation with my mom, who is a shopkeeper there. I was currently looking for a job, and Emily happened to mention to my mom that she would love some help with producing marketing materials and work on brand development. My mom urged me to contact Emily. A year and a half later, I’m still helping this small but mighty company grow.
Favorite TRH Scent? Milk + Honey. It is the perfect cozy but light scent. It smells like a sugar cookie, but also has a “beachy” scent to it. I’m not a fan of very strong candles, so this one is just right. It honestly has the perfect amount of scent. Not incredibly pungent, but you can definitely smell it throughout a room when you light it.
A crucial part of TRH is the slogan, #FollowYourScentses. What does that phrase mean to you? I have had to march to the beat of my own drum since I was young. I was born with Cerebral Palsy, a mild neurological disorder that left me unable to walk on my own. Because of this, I navigate the world with a walker, wheelchair and scooter. Though CP affects me physically, I strive to live as normally as possible. However, I have definitely had to forge by own path through life. It can be challenging, but it has taught me so many valuable lessons. Enjoy the little things. Don’t be afraid to make your own path. Live one day at a time. Don’t compare yourself to others. Everyone has their own story, and I want to live a life that I’m proud of!
What do you like to do when not working? I am very blessed that I love to do the same things in my free time as I do professionally. For the past six years, I have maintained my own fashion, beauty and lifestyle blog. I also love to go to concerts, socialize, read, try new restaurants and travel.
Favorite place you’ve traveled? I’ve traveled to Europe a couple times. I think my favorite city that I’ve visited is Salzburg, Austria. Even though it is pretty touristy due to The Sound of Music, Salzburg is so clean and crisp and breathtaking. The food is delicious, and the locals are so kind and helpful. I could go back again and again!
What has working for The Rustic House taught you? How have you grown in your job? Over the past year or so, I’ve done a lot of sales work and cold calls. It used to intimidate me, calling up people I didn’t know and carrying on a conversation. It turns out that I have really grown to enjoy it. I have really strengthened my communication skills. I love educating people about TRH, trying to spread the word about us far and wide. I am very proud of the candles we make, and I want other people to enjoy TRH candles too.
What are your hopes and dreams for the future? I just want to continue writing and working in Marketing. I think it’s fascinating to have an idea in my head, and then finding a way to put it on paper to make it a reality; whether that be through writing an article, mapping out a sales plan or interviewing people. As a journalism major, I am a storyteller at heart, and want to do that in as many ways as possible.
