Mattia Ruminer first met The Rustic House employees in the early days of the company. Impressed by their enthusiasm for growing their passion project, she knew she wanted to join the TRH team. A year after becoming an official employee, Mattia is now Production Supervisor, Head of Markets and a Sales Extraordinaire. Here is her story...
When did you join The Rustic House? Universal forces couldn’t keep us apart! I met a former TRH employee at The Ho Ho Expo in town, and officially joined New Years Eve 2017.
Favorite TRH Scent? Depends on my mood. Rosewood Amber is probably my all-time favorite. When I want to relax, I like to burn French Lavender and Eucalyptus + Spearmint Together. In the evenings, I love Tobacco + Vanilla and Java together. Pineapple + Cilantro is great during the spring, White Tea + Ginger is good for yoga and meditation. Finally, in the fall, I love Cranberry Spice mixed with Teakwood...reminds me of the beach!
What do you enjoy about your job? My job is like a box of chocolates...and I like chocolate.
The shop is full of good vibes, I can open up the garage door and let the sunshine in, I’m even allowed to bring my plants to work. I like the challenge of keeping our supplies in sync with our demand, and the experience of running a small business. I like the physical aspect of the job; lifting boxes, unloading glass, and consistently pouring trays of hot wax. I like interacting with people at markets and being creative. Out of town events teach me new ways to sell our product, which gives me an edge here locally where sales can be competitive. What I like most is the feeling of growing alongside a beautiful company, and contributing to its success.
What do you like to do when you're not working? When I’m not working I am adulting. I have two fur babies, a man and an indoor jungle that require daily maintenance. I’ve always ridden motorcycles; saying I like them would be an insult to my love. I’m a speed junkie and cars are like boxes on wheels for me. I also like to play outside and make smoothies.
How have you grown as a person while working for TRH? I officially joined the team at the beginning of 2018; I’ve made well over 30,000 candles since then. Looking into the world, seeing what we are producing, has taught me strength--mentally, physically and organizationally. A good weekend of sales means a busy week in production. Sometimes you gotta pull all-nighters to meet deadlines.
